Parents share realities of juggling work while homeschooling kids

Dani Bassil, CEO, DigitasOnce my chair broke in the middle of a review. Like actually broke. I just disappeared and then reappeared after a screech. Also my dog threw up right next to me on a client presentation. Numerous times my daughter Kiki (1) has grabbed the cord on my headphones without me realizing and they just come off mid-sentence. But my favorite was when our three dogs were barking, Kiki was high-pitch wailing, the doorbell rang and I excused myself from a client call, thought I’d muted myself and loudly screamed: “Will you arseholes shut up!” (at the dogs), when I obviously hadn’t muted myself. I then found it…

A Natural Work of Art May Be Hiding Among Indian Cave Masterpieces

Ten thousand years ago or more, people started painting the walls of caves near Bhopal, India. Over the millenniums they made thousands of images in what are now called the Bhimbetka Rock Shelters: men, women, a couple having sex, dancers, children, hunts, battles, about 29 different animal species and mythical beasts like a part-boar part-ox part-elephant. Over time, art styles shifted. Human figures donned clothes. Horses and elephants sprouted riders. Wars danced across sandstone faces. Today, many of the cave walls are now palimpsests, with medieval warriors covering Chalcolithic art on top of even older Mesolithic drawings. Still, an overlooked pattern spotted by a tour group of scientists in March…

Ex-con job seekers among many struggling to find work

Back in 2015, Bill Livolsi Jr. had no trouble finding work even though he’d been convicted of wire fraud and was upfront with potential employers about his crime. But that was before the COVID-19 pandemic. “I am applying to jobs left, right and sideways, ” says Livolsi, who has been looking for work since April when he was released from federal prison after serving a 13-month sentence for the crime. “It is extremely difficult … They’re picking the cream of the crop when there are opportunities.” Almost 1 in 3 adults in the United States has a criminal record, and finding a job when you have a past arrest or conviction has never been easy.…

On her second full day as first lady, though, she decided to make a change. Biden was scheduled for her first official outing that afternoon, a tour of the District’s Whitman-Walker Health clinic to see how cancer patients were being supported during the pandemic, but people were buzzing about photos that had come out the night before, showing National Guard members who had watched over her husband’s inauguration sleeping in garages after being asked to leave the Capitol building. Jill Biden, the next first lady, answers questions from D.C. area students. (The Washington Post) At the first lady’s behest, the White House kitchen whipped up dozens of cookies and wrapped…
