Latinos who supported Trump were more likely to lack a college education

Donald Trump had a higher share of support in the 2020 election among Latino voters without a college degree than those with one, Pew Research Center reported Wednesday. Although President Joe Biden won a majority of votes from Hispanics, 59 percent in the 2020 race, there was a significant difference in preference based on education, Pew reported. Biden won 69 percent of college-degreed Latino voters, compared to 30 percent for Trump, a 39 percentage-point advantage. But Biden’s advantage over Trump narrowed with Hispanics with some college or less, 55 percent to 41 percent, a 14-point advantage. Overall, Trump made gains with Hispanic voters. In 2016, 14 percent of Latinos voted…

Ex-Ethics Chief Rips Biden Over Jobs For Aides’ Relatives After 4 Years Of Trump Nepotism

Former director of the Office of Government Ethics Walter Shaub isn’t cutting President Joe Biden any slack just because he’s a Democrat and better than Donald Trump on ethics. Shaub slammed the president Friday over coveted administration jobs going to aides’ relatives after candidate Biden had sharply criticized Trump for nepotism. “We’re in trouble as a nation if ‘better than Trump is good enough’ becomes the standard for ethical behavior,” Shaub wrote in an op-ed for The Washington Post. “We need active measures to overcome the pernicious influence of family connections, cronyism and systemic racism,” he added. “Otherwise, implicit bias will surely get America more appointees from privileged backgrounds, insulated…

EPA Admits to Altering Science Under Trump, Pledges New Course

Senior leaders at the Environmental Protection Agency improperly meddled in the work of career scientists when reviewing the approval of certain pesticides in 2018, according to a new report and the agency’s own admission.  The top officials changed and omitted items from documents related to the decision to grant licenses to three dicamba pesticides, the EPA inspector general found, and created a culture in which career employees felt “constrained” and “muted” from speaking up. In addition to violating EPA’s scientific integrity policies, the tampering left the agency vulnerable to lawsuits. The IG report followed widespread allegations of political interference in the work of career scientists under the Trump administration and comes amid a…

Readers Write: Trump and Facebook, teachers, education amendment

Good for Facebook’s Oversight Board for upholding the Donald Trump ban (“Facebook board opts to keep Trump off network,” May 6). The board is also right to suggest that Facebook must decide his future on a more permanent basis. The metric here should be quite obvious: Put the onus of the return to Facebook on Donald Trump. Ban him until and unless he wholeheartedly acknowledges that Joe Biden is the duly elected president of the United States and that Trump’s assertion of massive election fraud is truly a big lie. Make it clear that these are the terms of conditionally lifting the ban, and that if he in any way…

Donald Trump had worst jobs record for a president since before WWII; other benchmarks from the Dow to the Big Mac tell different stories for presidential records

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Donald Trump will go down in history as the first president with a net loss of U.S. jobs over a four-year term in federal tracking of the statistic that goes back to just after the Great Depression. Supporters, however, will be quick to inject any number of measures that would support his presidency as a success – many that may or may not be any more directly tied to a president than the monthly jobs estimate by the federal government. Such is the nature of politics and campaigning. Complicated issues get broken down to the most simple data points, none used more often by politicians than the…
