    When a student has to acquire leadership skills

    Q: My son is a freshman at a liberal arts college in New England.  He is looking at internships, which list “demonstrated leadership skills” as a requirement.  My question is how does a freshman college student acquire leadership skills when many of them can barely secure summer jobs during this pandemic?  It seems like a stretch and I am not sure that any of his peers could “check this box” either.  Do you have any concrete examples that may serve as a way to fulfill this requirement?  A: It is not an easy time to secure summer jobs, internships or post-graduate jobs.  The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted a wide range…

    UK quits Erasmus student exchange scheme after Brexit because it’s too ‘expensive’

    The UK has quit the Erasmus student exchange programme after Brexit, complaining it is too “expensive”. Universities UK slammed the “disappointing” decision tonight after its disappearance emerged in the details of a trade deal. And EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier said the decision to scrap Erasmus in Britain was one of his only two regrets. The scheme allows UK university students to study abroad in one of 32 participating nations. Some can get a “large contribution” to their tuition fees back in the UK as well as a grant of up to €350 a month.     Warrant issued for ex-HISD teacher accused of sexual relationship with student

    A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a former Houston ISD teacher accused in late 2019 of having an inappropriate relationship with a teen student — with police learning in recent weeks that the relationship had been sexual, according to court records. Charges ranging from sexual assault and improper relationship with a student were lodged Thursday against Carlos Esparza, 38, more than a year following the first interview with the female student and a search of her phone.     Starting in Fall 2021, Oregon State University will begin to offer an additional scholarship opportunity, the Western Undergraduate Exchange scholarship, to first-year and transfer students of the Corvallis and Bend campuses. While the university currently offers a range of scholarships for both resident and non-resident OSU undergraduates, newly-admitted students will now be able to get a WUE scholarship next school year.
