Host families needed for foreign exchange students | Education

The International Student Exchange is looking for Upper Valley families to serve as hosts for foreign exchange high school students this upcoming school year. “We need as many as we can get,” said Merrilee Leslie, who serves as the area representative for the International Student Exchange. Leslie has noted some difficulty in arranging for students lately. “It’s a busy time of year. Things get kind of crazy. I do need to place four more students as a couple of their host families got switched around,” she said. As the name implies, foreign exchange students come from all over the world. They hail from Spain, Columbia, France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Turkey…

Letter: Sign up to host exchange student | Letters

Thank you for the Roanoke Times and Dan Casey informing people about our foreign student exchange program. I’d appreciate it if you would publish this letter of gratitude with additional information about the program. Mr. Casey did a great job describing the benefits to host families in his column (April 22) regarding our Foreign Links Around Globe’s Foreign Student Exchange program. When families open their homes to foreign students it also benefits our community and schools. For example, American students and community members learn a great deal about the world when exposed to students from other countries. Our foreign exchange students are well behaved and work hard in school. They…

CASEY: Exchange program seeks ‘host’ families for foreign students | Education

Unfortunately, COVID-19 has made it far harder to connect with potential families, Cathcart said. That’s because many typical avenues — such as PTA meetings, school sports events and community festivals — have been shut down for the past year. “It’s been challenging,” Cathcart said. “This is an unusual time for everybody.” Instead, she’s been doing some host-family prospecting online, and that’s how she found Michael and Meilii Halfmann, who moved here from Tucson, Arizona, three years ago. Both are teachers — Michael retired after 25 years, while Nancy works at John P. Fishwick Middle School. In Tucson, back when their (now adult) son and daughter were school-age, the Halfmanns hosted six different exchange…

Preparations are underway for the 2021-22 program year and the arrival of students in autumn. ASSE students come with an enthusiasm to practice their English and experience American culture — food, sports, shopping and more. They also…

Kalona-Based Student Exchange Program Seeking Host Families for Next Fall | KCII Radio

After COVID-19 forced international exchange students to either return home or stay in their native countries for the 2020-21 school year, Kalona-based World Link hopes U.S. host families can host high school exchange students this fall. World Link was founded in Kalona by Curtis and Lana Stutzman in 2002, who have a combined 50 years of experience in the cultural exchange community, first as students, then as hosts, and later as coordinators for other international programs. In an average year, World Link finds host families for about 160 exchange students in 10 states including Iowa. Regional Program Manager Karen King-Fitzgerald says the height of the pandemic last year prevented many…
