    This summer, the Brownlee family of North Oaks welcomed 17-year-old German student Julian Glaser to Shoreview. Glaser decided to spend his summer vacation here in Minnesota, his first visit to the U.S. Julian resides in Lorsch, the neighboring town to Shoreview’s sister city, Einhausen, which lies in the German state of Hessen approximately 62 miles northeast of Frankfurt. The teen enjoyed everyday life in the area and was also able to participate in several adventures during his stay.     German foreign exchange student spends part of year at Grovetown High

    In a year that’s been difficult for travel, foreign exchange student Nina Steiner, 17, made the trip of a lifetime that could change her life forever. Steiner, who attends school at Bertha-von-Suttner Gesamtschule in Germany, spent the spring semester at Grovetown High School. During her time in the U.S., Steiner had the opportunity to explore the Augusta area and attend the Columbia County Fair with her new best friend, Sam Lewis, who also attends Grovetown. The pair also took a trip to Tennessee.     SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — One Nixa High School foreign exchange student moved from Berlin, Germany, to attend school in Nixa, Missouri, despite travel becoming a novelty due to the pandemic. Annika Karnowski came to Missouri in mid-August to attend her junior year of high school in Nixa.     German science center fires director, citing trust concerns

    BERLIN (AP) — The head of Germany’s national earth sciences research center has been dismissed from his post amid allegations of corruption. The German Research Center for Geosciences, or GFZ, said Tuesday it had terminated the contract of scientific executive director and board chairman Reinhard Huettl “with immediate effect.” The GFZ runs an international seismic monitoring network known as GEOFON that provides near-real time information on earthquakes around the world.
