That was the case at Yale School of Management. Last year, in the depths of the pandemic, the Yale Class of 2020 made news with a major increase in total compensation, fueled by a big boost in median base pay — even as both job offers an acceptances…

US IT jobs grow in January, defying broader employment struggles

Even as the overall US economy struggled in January — adding just 6,000 private sector jobs and 49,000 jobs overall — the seasonally adjusted IT job growth last month was 18,200, according to the latest figures from IT employment consultancy Janco Associates. The past two months saw 55,000 new IT jobs, revised up from the 18,000 total reported a month earlier, based on revisions from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Still, compared to January 2020, US IT jobs have decreased by 35,800, a loss of about 1{c25493dcd731343503a084f08c3848bd69f9f2f05db01633325a3fd40d9cc7a1}. Last spring, more than 100,000 IT jobs were lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic, representing about 3{c25493dcd731343503a084f08c3848bd69f9f2f05db01633325a3fd40d9cc7a1} of the IT workforce. The…

Jobs report shows economy doesn’t have maximum employment or stable prices

January’s nonfarm payrolls report made clear that the U.S. is not experiencing, nor is moving toward, maximum employment. The paltry 49,000 jobs added is only the tip of the iceberg of bad news the report contained. By the numbers: The Labor Department also reported that the U.S. shed an additional 87,000 jobs in December, for a total of 227,000 jobs lost. Further, in November the U.S. added 72,000 fewer jobs than originally reported. That brought the three-month average of job gains to just under 29,000, which is about 100,000 less than needed simply to keep up with population growth — to say nothing of the 9.9 million people who had…

Daily living skills influence autistic adults’ education, employment options | Spectrum

Heavy load: Greater skill at managing daily life may make higher education more reachable for autistic people. RyanJLane / iStock Autistic people’s skill at managing the demands of daily life starts to decline after they leave high school, according to a new study. But those who maintain more abilities relative to their peers are more likely to pursue further education. Daily living skills — the ability to take care of independent-living tasks, such as personal grooming and managing money — also influence the likelihood that an adult with autism is employed, the authors found, but to a lesser extent than the severity of their autism traits does. The…
