The races for the Erie and Millcreek school boards are going virtual.
The Erie County Council PTA is holding Zoom forums for the candidates in both school districts.
The council is made up of a group of 14 PTAs in three school districts: Erie, Millcreek and General McLane. The council and the member PTAs work together on child advocacy issues.
The Erie Chapter of the League of Women Voters is co-sponsoring the candidate forums, the council said.
Erie School Board
The Zoom forum for the Erie school director candidates will be shown live on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Members of the public who want to attend the forum must register by 5 p.m. Monday at bit.ly/CandidateForumESD.
The forum will be rebroadcast on Erie-based Community Access Media’s cable channel, YouTube channel and website before the May 18 primary, said Bonnie Fagan, who is organizing the forums as the legislative and advocacy chair for the Erie County Council PTA.
Moderators for the Erie forum are Fagan and Erie Times-News reporter Ed Palattella, whose coverage areas include the Erie School District.
Online access to CAM is at camerie.org. The Spectrum cable channel for CAM, in Erie, is 1021.
Four seats on the nine-member Erie School Board are up for election, and no incumbents are running. Ten candidates are on the ballot.
Millcreek School Board
The Zoom forum for the Millcreek Township school director candidates will be shown live on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Members of the public who want to attend the Millcreek forum must register by 5 p.m. Tuesday at bit.ly/CandidateForumMTSD.
The Millcreek forum will be rebroadcast on CAM’s YouTube channel and website before the primary, Fagan said.
The Millcreek candidates are running for four seats with four-year terms and one seat with a two-year term. The Millcreek School Board has nine seats.
A total of eight candidates, including two incumbents, are on the ballot seeking the four-year seats. A total of five candidates, including one incumbent, are seeking the two-year seat.
