N.J. school closings, delayed openings, schedule changes due to wintry mix of snow, ice (01/26/2021)

Some New Jersey districts are calling for school closures, delayed opens and other schedule changes due to a storm bringing a wintry mix of snow, sleet, ice and rain to the state Tuesday.

While hundreds of districts continue to offer fully-remote classes due to the coronavirus outbreak, schools operating under in-person and hybrid models may opt to switch to remote classes for the day rather than cancel school altogether.

Forecasters say snow or a light wintry mix late Monday and early Tuesday is expected to change to sleet in some areas or rain in others. Icing is also expected to be an issue from Middlesex and Mercer counties north.

Less than an inch of snow is expected for most of the state with 1 to 2 inches in the forecast in northern counties.

The storm will move away from the area late Tuesday afternoon and early Tuesday evening, though only light drizzle will be falling in many spots by then.
