Takeda LeGrand
Superintendent of Schools
It brings me great joy to share with you our inaugural Superintendent Community Message.
The Superintendent Community Message will be a bi-weekly message from your superintendent of schools to you, the community of Scotland County. It is designed to keep the community informed about the work of the superintendent’s office and district-wide celebrations.
My first two weeks as superintendent of schools confirmed my family’s great decision to make Scotland County home. Thank you to the Scotland County Schools Board of Education for the opportunity to serve the community of Scotland County; thank you to the Scotland County Board of Commissioners for their unwavering support of our schools, teachers, and students; and thank you to the community members who make it possible for our elected officials to represent their interests every day.
While visiting our schools and the Richmond County Community College-Scotland, I was able to engage with district leadership, teachers, school-level staff, principals, students, a few parents, elected officials, and business leaders. At the core of every conversation and opportunity, I shared my commitment to children. Subsequently, I observed others demonstrate a commitment to children through their actions and comments.
I believe with consistency of such a high level of commitment to children , we can work together to provide a world-class education for our students. Inspired.
Accordingly, at the Board of Education meeting held Monday night we celebrated Scotland County Early College High School for earning a 100{c25493dcd731343503a084f08c3848bd69f9f2f05db01633325a3fd40d9cc7a1} graduation rate for the 2019-20 cohort and shared the Superintendent’s 100-day Entry Plan. A detailed copy of the student-centered plan is available at www.scotland.k12.nc.us (under the superintendent link). The plan will focus on six areas: governance, student achievement, community engagement, operations, safety, culture and climate.
I look forward to interacting in-person (per COVID-19 guidelines) and virtually with more community members during my listening and learning tours. I hope to see or hear from each of you soon.
In the interim, stay well. #SCSGrowsGreatness
