GMC Prep hosts international exchange student | News

Busto Arsizio, Italy is more than 5,000 miles away from Milledgeville, Ga. but it’s where Federico Tartaro calls home. Tartaro is an International Student Exchange program participant. The 17-year-old student is currently attending GMC Prep School for his American senior year of high school, living with a local host family in Milledgeville.  “I desired to travel to the United States for a while, knowing as an exchange student, it would be a fantastic opportunity to gain new experiences and insight into the life of an American high school student and family,” said Tartaro.  Tartaro made his way to the U.S. through a partnership with his home country’s exchange agency and…

Frisco ISD to offer hybrid and online high school options next year

Frisco ISD announced Monday that starting in 2022, students can earn high school credit through two new approved paths: a full-time online option or a hybrid system through the FISD+ program. According to a statement, the district had been advocating in Austin for virtual learning options to meet the changing needs of Frisco students. “This is something we have been working on for years, and we are thankful that Senate Bill 15 has propelled us forward in this journey,” FISD Superintendent Dr. Mike Waldrip said. “We are always looking for ways to evolve while expanding opportunities for our students and staff. “FISD+ provides a fresh and innovative approach to empower…

Experimenting with Higher Education | Daily Nous

A new university is being created by a group of academics and media personalities who, unlike you and the university you work or study at, care about the truth: And, might I add, they care about it fearlessly: Featuring a number of figures who have fearlessly quit previous jobs rather than be around people who disagreed with them, the University of Austin promises to be “fiercely independent—financially, intellectually, and politically,” by being funded via a libertarian think tank. It will have a physical campus in Austin, Texas, because “it’s good enough for [thinkers as radically different from one another as] Elon Musk and Joe Rogan.” The full curriculum is still…

Tech jobs: These are the highest-paying roles, and here’s where to find them

2020 saw the salaries of some tech professionals grow more quickly than others. Image: Getty IT managers, system architects, cloud engineers and cybersecurity engineers took home the biggest salaries last year, according to the latest Tech Salary Report from jobs website Dice, with Texas and other emerging hubs taking big leaps forward. Overall, the salaries of US tech professionals grew 3.6% between 2019 and 2020, reaching an average of $97,859. This was despite many businesses tightening budgets in response to the financial pressures caused by the pandemic. The biggest salary increases between 2019 and 2020 were experienced by occupations that helped organisations process and interpret data, digitise their products and…

How Industry Weaponizes Science and Sows Doubt to Serve Their Agenda

“When you’re shining a light on something, almost everything else remains in the dark. And sometimes that darkness is deliberately kept dark.” By: Peter Galison and Robert Proctor We may think of science as our foremost producer of knowledge, but for the past decade, science has also been studied as an important source of ignorance. The historian of science Robert Proctor has coined the term agnotology to refer to the study of ignorance, and much of the ignorance studied in this new area is produced by science. Whether an active or passive construct, intended or unintended, this ignorance is, in Proctor’s words, “made, maintained, and manipulated” by science. In the…

All schools in South Park School District going to online learning after Snapchat threat

All schools in the South Park School District will move to online classes Wednesday after Snapchat posts threatened gun violence at South Park Middle School. The district initially announced Tuesday evening that the middle school would turn to virtual learning but then later announced that all of the district’s schools — high school, middle school and elementary center — will hold their classes online. “This will allow district personnel to continue to work with law enforcement on this active investigation,” the district said in a statement. The school released a statement indicating that the district is prepared to make the transition: Throughout the school year, our teachers have reviewed with…

Democrats Quietly Nix Biden’s $100B for School Modernization From Infrastructure Package | Education News

On a hot late August day, less than 24 hours before students were set to return to classrooms at Science Leadership Academy at Beeber in Philadelphia – the majority for the first time in 18 months – city council member Helen Gym joined educators, parents and students gathered in front of the school’s red doors and stately columns to protest the unsafe conditions inside, where an ongoing construction project had left asbestos exposed, layers of dust caking hallways and a shortage of working bathrooms for 700 students. An emergency order notified parents and school staff earlier that day that, as a result of the facilities issues, high school students would…
