    Over 450 students enroll in Burnsville district’s fully online school | Savage News

    Back-to-school looks different this year for thousands of Minnesota students who’ve enrolled in newly-established online learning academies offered by some public school districts. The Burnsville-Eagan-Savage District’s fully online school, One91 Virtual Academy, launched this week with over 450 students enrolled. Around 45% of the district’s virtual academy learners are in grades K-5, according to Tuesday’s enrollment figures. Middle-schoolers account for roughly 25% of enrolled students and the remaining 30% of students are in high school. Don Leake, the district’s principal on assignment for the virtual academy, said enrollment grew sharply in late August. “We’ve gained about 100 kids in the last week-and-a-half and it’s basically across all the grade levels,”…

    Columbia Board of Education votes to extend coronavirus action plan

    News COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) The Columbia Board of Education voted unanimously to continue the mask mandate and COVID-19 plan. Watch the meeting replay in the player below. In the updated plan, the district has added remediation strategies for students and staff. The Superintendent will be able to decide if mask requirements are needed after consultation with the Incident Command Team, the Columbia/Boone County Health Department, health and medical professionals and neighboring school district superintendents.     Police Investigate Online Threats Made To Students At Long Island High School

    There was an increased police presence at a Long Island high school to start the week as the department investigated a “potential threat” that was made online over the weekend. On Monday, Sept. 13, officers from the Suffolk County Police Department were at Commack High School to investigate after being alerted to online threats that were posted on Saturday, Sept. 11. The Commack School District reportedly received two anonymous alerts on Saturday that had “limited threatening information” that was directed at a “few” specific students, not the high school or district itself.     N.C. COVID-19 funding for schools approved

    The Department of Education finally approved North Carolina’s plan to spend federal COVID-19 funds for schools on Monday. The state received its initial $2.4 billion allotment from the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund in March. Monday’s decision means the state will receive an additional $1.2 billion. The majority of this federal funding will go directly to districts and schools.
